Is Our Workforce Tired From Being Always Available?

World Wellbeing Week Celebrates Connection

Humans have never been more connected. We are instantly available, any time of day or night. Our work notifications can reach us at any time.

Despite this always available connection, many people feel isolated and lonely. Perhaps we’re missing the connections founded on the level of community and common humanity? That connection that comes from belonging.

This World Wellbeing Week, has a theme of connection, sharing and community. Highlighting the importance of social connection and supportive environments, for physical and mental health.

The World Health Organization defines health as “a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.”

This definition is from 1948. Paradoxically, we’re more connected than ever, so should be socially well.

Wellbeing. A Nice To Have Or Strategic Priority?

Workplaces are good environments to foster connection and wellbeing. We spend so much of our lives at work.

Team wellbeing is a hot topic at the moment. At Cultivate Courage, we recognise the importance of courageous leadership for health and wellbeing. Leadership style is the second biggest cause of employee stress, after workload, how we lead matters. Managing ourselves to manage others well, takes courage – and a plan.

The strategic approach to workplace wellbeing involves getting to know your workforce, identifying common challenges and listening to what they say – even if we don’t like it. Workplaces thrive when people feel seen, heard and valued. Cultivating real connection.

Data and evidence should be used to plan any interventions – setting a clear vision and objectives. This should be followed by continuous learning, reflecting and evolving.

Organisations that thrive with workplace wellbeing, take a flexible approach and have some staff time dedicated to it, inviting in key experts, when the time is right.

Without taking a strategic approach, any interventions albeit well meaning, may not deliver the results hoped for.

A Connected Culture That Makes Wellbeing The Norm

This World Wellbeing Week, we are inviting leaders to see wellbeing as a strategic priority.

Our tailored workplace wellbeing packages blend together years of knowledge gained from working in strategic health, with practical expertise of what works in practice.

We take the 3P’s approach.

  • Prevention of illness – early screening methods to catch disease before it develops or progresses
  • Promotion – encouraging healthy behaviours through education such as workshops
  • Protection – ensuring a safe working environment.

Any resources spent strategically on health and wellbeing, will reap rewards in the future. Prevention really is cheaper than cure.

Together let’s build a healthier and connected workforce, improving outcomes along the way. Because when connection is the culture, wellbeing is the norm.
